Instructor : Meriem Chabani / Fall 25’Covenant House Tailoring Shop: Fitting the Unfitted transforms a youth shelter at the edge of Louis Armstrong Park into a protective, porous space of repair. Responding to the park’s history of urban renewal and displacement in Tremé, the project uses tailoring as both program and metaphor: a way to re-stitch cultural memory, personal identity, and community life. By turning the hostile fence into an inhabited edge of workshops, kitchens, courtyards, and gathering spaces, the architecture negotiates safety and visibility. It proposes queer space as an adaptive condition where craft, care, and survival are continuously sustained.
